Not much to say on the horrific events in Arizona.
“As a foreigner”, a couple of colleagues have asked me specifically for my observations.
Obviously this attack is quite horrific. However, I’ve been quite stunned by the reactions of some corners of the media and various elected officials.
Within minutes of this tragic shooting various blogs were already pointing the finger, adding that although they had no evidence of a tea party/Sarah Palin connection there “probably” was one. It’s a real shame to say the least.
For most Americans, the thing this country does really well is come together during times of tragedy. And yet, some individuals seem hell bent on exploiting this tragedy in order to score points over their political rivals. It’s truly baffling and I’m perplexed as to what type of person would seek to actively do this.
The posturing from news anchors, guilty of their own inflammatory rhetoric. The elected representatives appealing for calm when only too recently they were shaking their fists and throwing every vile accusation at their opponents.
Both sides are guilty for raising the temperature. Is it incitement? No. Just flat out immaturity. Looks like there’s going to be a lot of growing up to do.
